CEU, EMDR credit, CPD, and advanced training are not synonyms
A program may provide general professional continuing education, a credit recognized by one EMDR association, another profession's CE or CEU, or learning with no credential value. Advanced and refresher describe content or level, not automatic approval. The same certificate can therefore have different uses under different systems.
Start with the exact credential, licence, employer, insurer, or learning purpose you need to satisfy. EMDRIA and EMDR Europe publish separate pathways, while national associations and professional regulators can add rules. Never convert hours, labels, or approvals between them without written confirmation from the body that will receive the evidence.
Verify the program, not just the provider
Before paying, locate the specific program in the current official directory or confirmation. Check program title, approval or credit number, eligible audience, dates, delivery format, presenter, learning objectives, attendance, assessment, completion, certificate, cancellation, access period, accessibility, recording, and all costs.
A provider may be approved while a particular event is not, or an approval may cover a different date, format, or credit type. A logo in an advertisement, a past approval, or a colleague's acceptance is not current proof. Ask the awarding body directly when the listing and sales page disagree.
Choose learning for a defined competence gap
Credits document participation under a rule; they do not establish mastery. Name the clinical, ethical, cultural, accessibility, population, protocol, research, remote-delivery, consultation, or documentation question the learning should improve. Compare the claimed level with your basic training, scope, current competence, and access to follow-up consultation.
Review the evidence and limitations behind strong claims. A course about a population or named procedure does not make every attendee a specialist, extend legal scope, validate an untested method, or replace supervised practice. Marketing novelty and a large credit count are weak substitutes for a defensible learning objective.
Completion evidence needs enough detail to be usable
Before enrolment, confirm what the certificate will show and how attendance is verified. Retain the participant name, exact program, provider, presenter, date, delivery mode, approved credit type and amount, program or approval identifier, completion requirements, and the original certificate or transcript.
Keep a separate professional-development record with the purpose, applicable pathway, deadline, evidence location, reflection, consultation need, and renewal decision. Do not put patient names, recordings, case narratives, target details, or other unnecessary clinical material into a public course platform or a general CE log.
Renewal is a current-status check, not a one-time calculation
Rules can change between enrolment and renewal. Recheck the awarding body's current requirement, earning window, eligible activities, duplicate-course policy, audit process, membership relationship, fees, grace or reinstatement rules, submission route, and deadline before relying on old totals.
EMDRSuite does not find, approve, sell, teach, score, award, transfer, or track continuing-education credits. It does not renew certification, accreditation, membership, licensure, consultant, or trainer status. Use the official system and retain evidence in the professional record authorized by your practice.
A course can be useful without counting where you need it
Work backward from the receiving body, exact credential, and learning gap. Then verify the specific program, credit label, completion evidence, and renewal window before paying.
Name the purpose
Decision
Separate licence CE, EMDR credential renewal, employer learning, consultation development, and voluntary skill growth.
Verify now
Ask the regulator, association, employer, or credential body that will receive the evidence.
Retain
Purpose, exact pathway, deadline, jurisdiction, and dated answer.
Do not infer
A useful course does not automatically satisfy every professional system.
Match the specific program
Decision
Check the event or course itself, not only the provider, presenter, brand, or training company.
Verify now
Current listing, program title, approval number, date, format, audience, presenter, and status.
Retain
Official result or written confirmation linked to the sales page and enrolment date.
Do not infer
Provider approval does not prove every program, date, or delivery format is approved.
Decode the credit label
Decision
Distinguish EMDRIA Credits, CE, CEU, NBCC credit, CPD, EMDR Europe or national credits, and attendance hours.
Verify now
Which exact label and amount the program awards and whether the receiving body accepts it.
Retain
Published credit statement, issuing organization, amount, eligibility, and restrictions.
Do not infer
Similar numbers and acronyms are not automatically transferable or equivalent.
Test the learning fit
Decision
Choose a defined competence gap: population, ethics, culture, access, research, protocol, remote care, consultation, or records.
Verify now
Objectives, level, prerequisites, evidence base, presenter competence, practice, feedback, and follow-up.
Retain
Learning objective, rationale, reflection, consultation need, and planned application boundary.
Do not infer
Advanced in a title does not confer specialist competence, scope, or a protected designation.
Check delivery and completion
Decision
Compare live, in-person, webinar, self-paced, recorded, hybrid, and accessibility requirements.
Verify now
Attendance, identity, assessment, partial credit, expiry, replay, technology, accommodations, cancellation, and total cost.
Retain
Terms accepted, access dates, completion result, correspondence, and receipts where needed.
Do not infer
Online, free, expensive, or in person does not by itself determine credit acceptance or quality.
Inspect the certificate
Decision
Confirm before enrolment that the final evidence contains every field the pathway requires.
Verify now
Participant, exact title, provider, presenter, date, modality, credit type and amount, approval ID, and completion.
Retain
Original certificate or transcript plus a separate minimum-necessary professional log.
Do not infer
A generic attendance email, screenshot, badge, or receipt may not prove qualifying completion.
Recheck at renewal
Decision
Reconcile completed learning with the current earning window, audit, duplicate, submission, and reinstatement rules.
Verify now
Current requirement, eligible activities, previously used credits, membership link, fees, deadline, and directory status.
Retain
Renewal confirmation, submitted evidence list, decision, expiry, restrictions, and next review date.
Do not infer
An old total or expired badge does not prove current credential, membership, licensure, or competence.
No universal conversion
This is a vendor-neutral verification framework, not an official course directory, credit calculator, provider endorsement, equivalency decision, renewal application, or permission to practise. Requirements change; confirm them with the current receiving body before enrolment and submission.
Keep the pathway separated
FAQ
EMDR continuing education
Are EMDRIA Credits the same as CEUs?
Do not assume so. One program can carry more than one credit type, but each licensing board, profession, employer, and EMDR credential decides what it accepts.
Does EMDR Basic Training count as continuing education for certification?
EMDRIA states that its continuing-education credits build upon approved basic training. Verify the current rule for the exact application or renewal pathway.
Do free or online EMDR CEUs count?
Price and delivery mode do not decide acceptance. Verify the specific program, credit type, date, eligibility, completion evidence, and receiving body's current rule.
Does advanced EMDR training make me a specialist?
No. Attendance or a certificate does not automatically establish specialist competence, protected status, legal scope, supervised ability, or suitability for every case.
Can I reuse the same EMDR workshop for another renewal?
Policies can restrict duplicate programs or previously used credits. Check the current awarding-body and regulator rules before counting it again.
Does EMDRSuite award or track CE credits?
No. EMDRSuite is clinical workflow software and does not provide education, issue certificates, approve programs, calculate credits, or renew credentials.
